Tipperary County Council says works to upgrade the N74(Cashel road) into Tipperary Town (from the town boundary to the Bansha Road Roundabout) is currently out to tender. The works may start in late 2023 dependent on Transport Infrastructure Ireland(TII)approvals and the contractor’s ability to commence meaning the start date could fall back to early 2024. The works were given planning approval in January 2021.

The Council says it was agreed with residents that the status quo with respect to ownership of footpaths and parking would remain as it is currently and that there will be an ongoing requirement for the residents and businesses to be kept informed and consulted.  The work involves improving the roadway and footpaths, improving lighting and drainage and a new parking layout at St Michael’s Cemetery. The works are expected to take 15 – 18 months to complete. The next milestone will be the Contract signing followed by the release of a public information leaflet and Press Release with more definite dates.  This will take place in October or November 2023 according to the Roads Department of Tipperary County Council.
