An elderly male pedestrian is said to have been seriously injured yesterday after being involved in a collision with a HGV in Liberty Square Thurles. The incident happened as the vehicle was entering the Square from O’Donovan Rossa Street at approximately 3.25pm

Emergency services including two Ambulances, Garda and Fire service personnel responded to the incident and the injured person was transferred to University Hospital Limerick by ambulance.

The incident caused disruption to traffic as the Eastbound lane of Liberty Square was blocked for a considerable period of time.

This is the 3rd incident of a pedestrian being involved in a collision with a vehicle in the Liberty Square area  since 2018.  The N62 and the N75 roads both traverse the Square leading to a high volume of HGVs in the town centre which is also heavily used by local traffic as there is only one river crossing in the town.
