The Fianna Fáil TD for Tipperary, Jackie Cahill and the new Fianna Fáil Local Election Candidate in the Newport LEA, James Collins have today called for road safety improvement works at Kilcommon Cross, on the R503 Thurles to Limerick Road.

Deputy Cahill says the junction is an extremely busy area with a funeral home, a shop, pub and petrol station all in close proximity in addition to traffic from the Seán Treacy’s GAA grounds.  The Thurles based TD says a number of residents have expressed concerns about the behaviour of drivers as regards speeding at or near the junction.

James Collins, the Fianna Fáil candidate for the Local Elections in the area says a speed limit of 80 km/hr is too high for safety reasons and now wants Tipperary County Council to include the Kilcommon Cross junction in the upcoming speed Limit Review.  The Council is awaiting a new policy from the Department of Transport as regards speed limits on public roads and is then to conduct a review of all current speed limits in the county.
