Half Of Tipp Fire Stations To Undertake Industrial Action From Midnight

353

Industrial action is to commence at 6 of the 12 fire stations in Tipperary at midnight.

The public are advised to check their smoke alarms and ensure it is in working order, to have a fire response plan in place and to call 999 or 112 if the service is required.

Six different fire stations will be on strike each night until June 19th in county Tipperary. Any call that is received will be responded to by one of the other 6 stations. Today’s council meeting heard that there will be delays and impacts on service in the county due to the action. The industrial action is being undertaken as SIPTU is seeking a response to address the recruitment and retention crisis in the service.

Talks between SIPTU and the LGMA are ongoing today in a bid to reach an agreement. An all-out strike is currently scheduled for June 20th if no agreement is reached to improve working conditions and pay for Retained Fire fighters across Ireland.
