Final Day For Submissions For Proposed Walking/Cycling Route In Thurles

367

Today is the final day for submissions on a proposed walking and cycling route through Thurles. Consultants working on behalf of the council have published 6  possible route combinations to link Thurles Railway station with Bohernamona Road. The vision for the scheme is to create a pedestrian and cyclist shared path between Thurles Train Station and Bohernamona Road that provides connectivity to all schools and a new crossing over the River Suir. This would allow students to bypass the congested streets of the town centre and to travel directly to school on an off-road path; and provide a facility for parents to drop-off children at the end of the shared path nearest to them to allow the children to walk to school in safety. The consultation is non statutory and comes as the Council is also developing a Local Transport Plan for Thurles. The Preferred Option will be presented to  the National Transport Authority for approval and then progress to  the next phase which is Preliminary Design. Full details are available on the council website.
