Back In Five Campaign Kick-Starts This Week

Disability rights campaigners in county Tipperary, including the Irish Wheelchair Association, are to carry out a protest event in five town this week.

The “Back in Five” campaign is focused on the proper use of disabled parking bays.

Campaigners will place a wheelchair in a regular parking space with a “back in five” note attached.

The campaign will be assisted by local Garda and will last for one hour on each day in each location.

The protest will be held in Carrick on Suir on Monday at Main Street, between 10am to 11am.

It will then be held on Main Street, Cashel, on Tuesday 23rd August at 11am to 12 noon.

On Wednesday the protest moves to O’Connell Street, Clonmel, between 11am to 12 noon.

The Car Park at Cahir Castle is the venue for the protest on Thursday, between 11am and noon, where the hope is that some international visitors might be exposed to the campaign.

The campaign will end on Friday August 26th on Main Street Tipperary town with the hour long protest taking place between 11am to 12 noon.

Garda are currently delivering Operation ENABLE – to ensure the proper use of disabled parking spaces and permits.

The offence of illegally parking in a disabled bay is dealt with by way of a fixed charge notice for €150.
