Tipp Senator Calls For Seanad Invitation For Visiting Ukraine MPs

Senator Garret Ahearn has called for a group of visiting MPs from Ukraine to be invited to address the Seanad when they visit next month.

The Tipperary based Senator visited Ukraine last week and extended the invitation to visit Ireland to the parliamentarians. The trip to Ireland will be used to document their experiences of war and seek to garner support against Russia’s illegal invasion of their country.

Ireland is a small country but holds significant influence within the European Union according to Senator Ahearn, and can assist the campaign to reinforce President Zelensky’s message of freedom for all Ukrainian people. Senator Ahearn visited the towns of  Bucha and Borodianka during the trip and described it as a harrowing experience. Government officials in Ukraine asked the Senator to  convey their gratitude to Irish people for their generosity in opening up their homes to Ukrainian citizens.
