Taoiseach Travels to US to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day

Following a weekend trip to London, An Taoiseach Micheal Martin has now traveled to the US for a 4-day series of events to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

A visit to the White House to meet President Biden is included in the Taoiseach’s itinerary.

Tomorrow, Mr Martin is scheduled to attend a lunch hosted by Congressman Richie Neal, a ceremony in honour of former SDLP leader and civil rights campaigner John Hume, a Tourism Ireland reception and a special performance of Riverdance.

There will be an economic focus on Wednesday including a Women in Business Executive roundtable, a US Chamber of Commerce and Science Foundation Ireland event, and the Ireland Funds’ 30th National Gala.

Top level meetings on Capitol Hill including meetings with the Vice President Kamala Harris will be held on Thursday.

The agenda is to focus on the strong cultural and economic ties between Ireland and the US, the situation in Ukraine and ongoing support for the Good Friday Agreement peace deal.

This year, over 30 Irish ministers and ministers for state will visit overseas locations as part of the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.
