Passport Office Finally Deemed An “Essential Service” As 90,000 Applications Backlogged

The Cabinet meeting today is also expected to re-categorise the Passport Office as an essential service – the Dáil heard last week that a 90,000 backlog of applications exists.

In excess of 428,000 passports have been issued since the first lockdown was called on 12 March 2020 – with some applications arising from Brexit.
