Cllr Denis Leahy has announced that he will not be seeking re-election to the county council at next May’s local elections.

The councillor, who is the only one on the Tipperary/Cashel Municipal District authority that is based in the town, told Tipp Mid West that he has decided to retire after 35 years in local politics.

Speaking on Morning Call today, the independent councillor said that he is leaving with the highest number of votes he ever secured in his political career.

He thanked the people of Tipperary for their support and said he was honoured to serve them, adding that he was always upfront and available, and he doesn’t think he ‘ever let them down’.
