Blasphemy Referendum: How Tipp Voted

475

Voters in Tipperary have voted yes in favour of a proposal to amend Thirty-seventh Amendment of the Constitution (Repeal of offence of publication or utterance of blasphemous matter) Bill 2018 on October 26th, 2018

The referendum was held on the same day as the Presidential Elections. Voter turnout was low both locally and nationally when compared with the Repeal the 8th Referendum held earlier this year. The ‘yes’ vote at 59% was lower in Tipperary when compared with the national result of almost 65%. Notable was the higher than usual number of invalid or “spoilt” votes. The referendum has been ‘carried’ and the constitution will be amended. The Government will now move to amend or repeal relevant legislation.
