Officials Questioned Over Company’s Move

The members of the Tipperary/Cashel Municipal District have agreed to meet with the Economic Development Committee ahead of any decision to establish a jobs working group for the area.

The arrangement follows news last Friday that Tipperary Distribution Ltd is moving its operations to Cahir as planning issues prevented it from being able to relocate elsewhere in Tipperary town.

A representative of the planning authority today told the council that the location the company wished to move to was not suitable under zoning regulations and may also have posed issues for nearby residents.

Council members had asked why more could not have been done to facilitate the company.

They were told that officials from the Economic Directorate had worked closely with the company in question, and it was further claimed by officials that what led to the company’s decision ‘did not happen overnight’.

The council decided to meet with the Economic Development Committee within the next month before making a decision about setting up a jobs committee, as suggested in a motion submitted by Cllr Martin Browne.
