Gardaí are advising people to demand identification from anyone who may call to their home claiming they are from Irish Water.
The advice is being issued by the gardai after an attempted burglary in Clonmel yesterday.
A man claiming to be checking pipes ahead of the installation of a water meter managed to gain access to a residence.
Once inside, he distracted the homeowner while a second man made his way upstairs.
However he was interupted by the homeowner who had become suspicious.
They threatened the homeowner befor fleeing the scene.
