Independent TD for Tipperary Seamus Healy has called for the Back to School Allownace to be restored back to 2011 levels.
Deputy Healy was responding to this weeks findings by children's charity Barnados that the cost of sending a child to primary school for the first time is around €300 and the figure for secondary school is €800 on average.
Given that the Minister with responsibily for the payment is the Labour Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton, Deputy Healy has called on all local Labour Party political representatives to support his call.
