Dail debate on Minister Alan Shatter

Deputy Michael Lowry said today a Dail debate on a motion of no confidence in Minister Alan Shatter is an appropriate use of Dáil time.

He intends to vote against the motion on the grounds that while a mistake was made by the Minister, his integrity is not in question and it is not a sacking offence.

He added that in his view, the motion has to do with political point-scoring, while at the same time the penalty points matter has been an attempt by some other Independant TDs to cause maximum embarrassment to members of the gardaí.

The North Tipperary TD also said that while he is supportive of the minister on this occasion, he does not consider him a political friend, saying he was never the most popular member  of the house" adding that "he can be irritatingly dismissive and brash.

The Tipperary TD maintains that it is time politicians get back to what they were elected for, which is running the country, addressing the serious issues that face society and getting the economy "back on its feet"
