The Attorney General has been contacted by a Cashel Town Councillor over the constitutionality of the abolition of town and borough councils.
In a letter, Cllr Tom Wood (Non-Party) said that he had serious questions about the decision made by Minister for the Enviroment Phil Hogan, especially when a 1999 referendum gave recognition to Local Government for the first time in Bunracht na hEireann.
Speaking on Tipperary Mid West Radio this morning Cllr Wood said considering that a referendum was passed, clarification is needed about the technical basis for the abolition of these local authorities.
