The recent announcement that €225,000 in funding is being provided to replace the lights on Friar Street, Cashel with new decorative lights is an example of how the abolition of the town council will be regretted.

That was according to Mayor of Cashel, Dr. Sean McCarthy (FF), today.  The funding was announced this week and will, according to Cllr McCarthy, significantly upgrade the apperance of the street, which is an important access point to the town, and improve the vista of the Rock of Cashel as visitors drive down the street.

He added that it is a project that will improve the economic and social attractiveness of the town, that has been worked tirelessly by the town council.  As such he believes that this copper-fastens his viewpoint that the abolition of Cashel Town Council is a serious error and a mistake that will be recognised in the long term
