Call For Jobs In The South East

580

Urgent action to stem the haemorrhage of jobs in the South East has been called for by the Southeastern Regional Authority.

At yesterday's meeting of the organisation, members noted the high unemployment rate in the region, mentioning in particular, the loss of a number of large industries such as Talk Talk in Waterford and Cordis Corporation in Cashel.

The most recent unemployment figures from the Central Statistics Office show that the South East has the highest unemployment rate of the eight Irish regions, currently standing at 18.2%.

The government has been called upon to deliver balanced regional development and immediately direct all the enterprise promotion and support agencies to make the South East region their top priority.
