Storm Kathleen Continues To Pass Through Co. Tipp

Co Tipperary is feeling the full impact of Storm Kathleen as it passes through the county today.

Tipperary is under a status yellow wind warning until 8pm tonight.

Storm Kathleen is set to hit the country with a status Orange Wind Warning been issued for counties Cork, Kerry, and Waterford is valid until 2pm.

Met Eireann says this weather conditions are expected to bring gale force southerly winds, with some severe and damaging gusts.

While Galway and Mayo are also in a orange weather alert will be in place until 6pm.

Possible impacts include very difficult travel conditions, fallen trees, loose objects being displaced and power outages.

A number of residents are without power including almost 2,000 in Fethard area with restoration expected until 6pm this evening.

While 1809 residents on the Cashel Road in Clonmel are without power with an estimated restoring time of 6pm.

146 residents without power in Knockavilla outside Holycross. Estimated restoration time is 5pm.

Rock of Cashel management confirm that due to the high winds the historical site is closed today for the safety of their visitors. Management apologise for any inconvenience caused.

With Tipperary under a status wind warning, motorists are advised conditions may lead to some fallen trees, difficult travel conditions, debris and loose objects displaced.

Meanwhile Tipperary Fire and Emergency Service says it’s been a busy morning around the county dealing with various types of road hazards.

The service is advising if people are taking to the roads today, please reduce your speeds significantly. Its likely there are many road hazards that haven’t been reported yet and may well be around the next bend.

The service says their crews may be present on the roads throughout the day and whilst they implement all safety procedures and control measures to ensure the safety of our crews, one factor they can’t control is the driving behaviours of other road users.
