County Tipperary To Receive €1.5M To Support Localities That Welcomed Refugees Or Asylum Seekers

County Tipperary is to receive almost €1.5M to support localities that have welcomed people from Ukraine and other countries. The Department of Rural and Community development today announced how a €50M Community Recognition fund will be allocated across each county based on the number of refugees or asylum seekers in the county.

Applications will now be sought by Tipperary County Council to determine how the Tipperary 2024 allocation of  €1,465,434 will be distributed. In 2023 Tipperary was allocated €997,861.  Projects that will be funded include – Development or refurbishment of community or cultural facilities including play areas, walkways, parks, community/sensory gardens, allotments, and recreational areas; Development or refurbishment of local club and sports facilities, Enhancement to school/parish facilities which are open to use by all of the community after school hours; Purchase of equipment for local clubs, festivals, community events and organisations, and Transport infrastructure such as community vehicles.

Councils are to be allowed to submit funding proposals to the Department of Rural & Community Development in phases, which will allow them to respond to changing circumstances during the year. The highest allocation was made to county Kerry with the Kingdom to receive €3.9M while the lowest allocation was €765,487 to Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Local Authority.
