Work will begin in early January and will take up to eight months to complete.

District Cathaoirleach Cllr Michael Fitzgerald, has welcomed the signing of the contract as being ‘very much needed in Tipperary town’.

He has also told Tipp Mid West that he has spoken to the contractor who has assured him that the project will create a number of jobs locally.

The council has said that the project is the first element in a number of planned road improvements within Tipperary town.

The scheme, the council notes, was preceded by investment by Irish Water in the recent upgrade of water mains through the removal of lead and asbestos piping.

Further pavement improvements in Tipperary town are planned for Main Street and Fr Matthew Street following the completion of this stage of works.
