Solas, who operate as an agency of the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science is currently reviewing a preliminary business case for the redevelopment of Kickham Barracks in Clonmel.
Tipperary ETB submitted the plan which has an estimated cost of €94M.
The project involves collaboration between Tipperary ETB and TUS – the Technological University of the Shannon, to deliver a 9000 sq. metre student campus in the Clonmel town centre location.
Solas will complete it’s review and forward the proposal with their recommendations to the Department of Further and Higher Education, for their approval.
Local Cllr Siobhan Ambrose says if the project is delivered it would allow up to 900 Further Education and Training students and over 400 Higher Education students to benefit from a new state of the art campus with an added economic spin off for Clonmel town Centre.
