Thurles MD councillors are to consider plans for traffic calming on the N75 Kickham street on a 1200 metre stretch between the 100km gateway on the Dublin road to the roundabout at the former Munster Hotel on Cathedral street at Monday’s Municipal District Meeting.
The measures are now out for public consultation until Monday Dec 18th.
The public can make submissions until 4.30pm on January 8th 2024.
The proposals include road resurfacing, improvements to existing drainage, the installation of uncontrolled pedestrian crossings (near Centra) and a number of raised pedestrian crossings, a narrowing of the carriageway to create 3.25 metres wide and a minor design change to the existing layout of the Mill Road roundabout.
Build outs are also planned along the route to further calm traffic.
The road has a very high traffic volume as it links Thurles to the M8 motorway – daily traffic movement of 4,893 vehicles are recorded at a monitoring point near Two Mile Borris outside the town.
The plans can be viewed in the Council office at Castle Avenue, Thurles and on the tipperarycoco.ie website at this link here.
