The best way to secure your home from criminals is to Lock up and Light up.
That’s the message from local crime prevention officer Tom O Dwyer as we head into the darker evenings.
Sergeant O Dwyer says 20% of breakins are through unlocked doors and windows.
With the winter months burglaries usually take place between 5 and 10pm.
Mr O Dwyer says the aim is to make it difficult for the criminals to access your home and to ensure homeowners secure their money or jewellery if a breakin does occur.
Gardai are appealing to people to report the property theft so they can give resource to deal with the matter in the area.
