The average rent for a new tenant is slightly over 10% more compared to this time last year according to a Rental Tenancy Board report.

In the first quarter of 2023, an average new tenant was paying 940.92 euro per month, compared to 853.09 the previous year.

However when comparing the last quarter of 2022, the new tenants saw a very slight decrease .2% in their rent in the Premier County.

The number of newly registered tenancies increased in six counties including Tipperary.

Landlords must register residential tenancies with the Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) every year and update the RTB if information about a tenancy changes. The RTB uses this information to keep a public register of tenancies.

Nationally, the report shows rent have seen a jump of 2.5% when compared to the quarter previous, while there’s been a near 9% rise year-on-year.

The Cashel based TD is calling on the Government to cut rents and start building homes,
