Cllr Moloney Expresses Dismay Over Failure To Provide Funding For Tipp Women’s Mini Marathon

Cllr Andy Moloney expressed dismay at today’s Municipal Meeting MD as regards the failure to provide funding for the Tipperary Women’s Mini marathon.

The Cllr says he cannot get clarity as to why funding is not in place as the Tipperary Sports partnership have been supporting the event for several years.

In the light of the expansion of meet and train groups and other efforts to get people active the move is very disappointing according to the Cahir based Independent Councillor.

Cllr Moloney appealed for the decision to be reviewed and asks that funding be found at this stage for the event which is on the athletics calendar for September 24th.

The annual event is normally rotated between Clonmel and Thurles.

Today’s meeting heard that the Moore Abbey Milers will use their licence to run the event in Cahir and that stewards and a route can be provided to enable the event to be rescued.

The Council official from the Community & Enterprise section, Ms Kathleen Prendergast, committed to get an update to the Councillor regarding any available funding as soon as possible.
