Tipp Gardaí Issue Warning On Garda Imposter Scam

Gardaí in Tipperary have issued a warning to the public about a scam involving criminals pretending to be from the Garda Crime Unit. Members of the public have received calls from the “Garda Crime Unit” indicating suspicious activity on bank accounts.

Gardaí say they never, ever call people to alert them about personal financial information. The Gardaí advice is to hang up on such calls and to never divulge personal details, account numbers, card numbers or pin numbers in such instances.

The advice is to consult the website FraudSMART.ie This is a fraud awareness initiative provided by a number of Irish banks and regularly issues alerts about scams that seek to defraud unsuspecting citizens. It also provides simple and impartial advice on how best they can protect themselves and their resources.
