Planning Application In Respect Of Mr Price Outlet Refused By Tipperary County Council

Tipperary County Council has refused a planning application in respect of the Mr Price outlet in Tipperary town at Bohercrowe. The planning application (for retention) was in respect of both Unit 1 and Unit 2 currently occupied by Mr Price. The Company submitted the application seeking permission to use the units for retail, including ancillary staff offices and a staff canteen along with all shopfront signage in response to a warning letter from Tipperary County Council.

The store presently employs approximately 22 staff and for now is awaiting the full decision correspondence from the Planning Authority. The Head Office of Mr Price says that no immediate changes are expected at the Tipperary town outlet. The company says the presence of the retail operation in the building is the best option available as there has been little interest in the building for warehouse use and a recent viewing by Enterprise Ireland/IDA did not attract a client.

Concerns had been expressed in December about another retail operator trading from the building which may have undermined some retail trade in Tipperary town in areas that are zoned for retail trade. This retailer is no longer operating at Bohercrowe.
