Templemore Civic Reception Planned To Honour Local Groups

Thurles Templemore MD  is to afford a Civic Reception to a number of individuals and groups later this month.

Among the groups to be honoured are Templemore Tidy Towns, the Dillon Quirke Foundation, the Roscrea Intermediate Hurling Team, the Durlas Og u15 team, Upperchurch Drombane GAA club and the Templemore Pipe Band.  A number of individuals are also to be recognised for their contribution to society and the three individual nominated for the award are former Tipperary Star Editor and Author Noel Dundon, John Dwyer from Ballycahill winner of both European and world Masters Athletics titles and finally Yvonne O’Rourke a former Captain in the Irish Air force. 

Ms O Rourke from Roscrea is one of the 4 Women of Honour Group that have worked to raised awareness of the pervading culture within the Irish Defence Forces  as regards a culture of bullying,  sexual harassment, sexual assault and issues of discrimination.  In response to the efforts of the Women of Honour Group the Government is to establish a statutory inquiry into issues raised and is also expected to implement major reforms within the Defence Forces. To date 26 women have come forward to make complaints as part of a Garda investigation into complaints of sexual harassment and abuse involving members of the Defence Forces.
