Estimated 1,200 Construction Jobs Created At New Manufacturing Facility Lilly In Limerick

400

An estimated 1,200 construction jobs will be created in the development a new manufacturing facility for the US pharmaceutical company Lilly in Limerick.  The company is to invest over €464M in a brand-new manufacturing facility in Raheen, Limerick to establish Lilly’s fifth manufacturing site in Europe. Upon completion, the company’s total investment in the site will be approximately €928M.  The Limerick manufacturing site will be a fully integrated digital site and the plant will initially focus on producing antibody drugs which neutralise dangerous substances in the blood. The new facility will also bring 300 new permanent jobs and expand Lilly’s manufacturing network for biologic active ingredients. It is hoped that the facility can be in operation in 2025. IDA Ireland is supporting the project.

The company currently employs 2,700 people at two Cork locations and has been operating in Ireland since 1978. The company says   the close links that have been fostered between the life sciences industry, communities, and universities with strong science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) programs in Limerick help to make it an ideal location for the new facility.
