Minister for Transport, Eamon Ryan today announced details of a €626 million investment programme for 2023 for regional and local roads – county Tipperary is to receive €33.5m for 2023.
The funding covers a wide range of activity such as
- Road Improvement – €17m,
- Maintenance works – €4.5m,
- Drainage works is allocated €1.2m,
- Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience works for areas prone to flooding – €908,000,
- Bridge maintenance on 12 specified bridges – €905,000
- Safety Improvement works are allocated €605,000 – this includes €150,000 for improvements to the junction at Bouladuff, (The Ragg) near Thurles
- Signage – €44,160 – this includes signage for cycling routes, speed limits in housing estates and rural areas.
There were two significant specific improvement grants – Cahir Bridges on the R640 is allocated €231,000 while improving works at the Kilcommon Junction of the R503/R497 are allocated €450,000.
Tipperary County Council is also allocated €600,000 to cover rehabilitation works on the old Dublin to Cork main road. In addition, funding of €804,600 is allocated to the Community Involvement Scheme – this scheme funds works on public roads with a contribution from local landowners or residents.
Two strategic road projects were also allocated funding today – €75,000 is allocated for design work on the Thurles Inner Relief Road and €750,000 is allocated to the Latteragh Upgrade.
