The McVerry Housing Trust Calling For Vacant Properties To Be Put To Use

The McVerry Housing Trust is calling on Tipperary County Council to do more to bring vacant properties back into use.

Fr Peter McVerry says if every local authority brought 50 or 60 empty units back into use every year, we could have an extra 2,000 units available.

It follows data from the Housing Department that show homeless in County Tipperary remained unchanged with 40 people now being supported by homeless services.

Fr McVerry believes if unregulated Airbnb’s were brought back into use, we’d have thousands more units available for accommodation.

The well-known priest says there’s thing that can be done adding he’s very depressed at the slow pace, the snail’s pace.
