The Government is to implement new rules for the short-term letting of non-principal private residences in rent pressure zones.
The aim is to ensure more homes are offered for long-term rent in Rent Pressure Zones where rents are highest and where households have the greatest difficulty finding affordable accommodation.
At present, there are 6 Local Authority areas and 48 Local Electoral Areas which have been designated as Rent Pressure Zones – no part of county Tipperary is included in a RPZ.
From September 1st online websites will not be able to advertise properties in RPZs which do not have the requisite planning permission.
Non-compliance with these provisions will be an offence for both the individual property owners concerned and the online platforms.
These new controls will be in place a period of six months initially during which time the Department of Tourism alongside Fáilte Ireland will establish a new registration system as committed to under the governments housing policy.
