Up to 10 calls a day are being made to local animal rescue from people wanting to surrender their dog.
Mo Chara Animal Rescue is a volunteer group based in Moyne outside Thurles.
Group Chairperson Nikki Vee-see says some people are honest about not being able to cope with their pet while others use other excuses.
Ms Vee-See is encouraging people to research the breed and ensure their home is the right fit before getting a dog.
