Senator Byrne says it’s unacceptable that a patient spent 3 days on a trolley before being admitted to a ward

Overcrowding at University Hospital Limerick was raised by Senators Maria Byrne aswell as Senator Martin Conway yesterday.

Maria Byrne also raised the difficulties caused by 97 Covid positive patients in the Hospital and the safety of staff working in the hospital.

Senator Byrne is seeking clarification on what kind of review HIQA will conduct as promised by the Taoiseach.

Senator Byrne also asked that their inspection visit should not be notified in advance.

While Senator Conway is seeking clarity on whether staff with the power to discharge patients are working at the weekend.

He is also asking for specifics and a timeline on the promised HIQA review of UHL.  

Minister Mary Butler informed the Seanad that the tender evaluation process for a new 96 bed block commenced on Feb 3rd and offered to seek details of the review from the Minster for Health Stephen  Donnelly.
