New Deer Hunting Regulations For First Time Hunters

New regulations for Deer hunting licences will be in operation’s for this year’s hunting season. This season will see the introduction of mandatory certification training for first time hunters.

The addition of this certification is designed to enhance safety through the countryside and ensure first time hunters are provided with essential knowledge in deer stalking.

Licences are issued on an annual basis and cover the period from 1st August to 31st July. To ensure timely processing of applications, the NPWS is encouraging applications before 1st July 2022.

Currently there are 3 courses approved by the Department through the NPWS and links to the relevant courses can be found on or through the outlets own websites.

Further courses may be approved by the Department as they become available. The Department issued 6,000 licences for deer hunting last year.
