More than 88,000 Homes Without Power Due to Storm Eunice

697

Gale force winds have caused damage to the electricity network affecting more than 88,000 homes, farms and businesses.

The damage is mainly attributable to fallen trees on overhead lines as a result of strong winds caused by Storm Eunice.

So far, the damage has been most extensive in West Cork and Kerry, but with strong winds still crossing the south of the country, more damage and interruptions to supply can be expected.

ESB Networks is reminding the public to never, ever touch or approach fallen overhead lines as they are live and extremely dangerous.

All available resources are being deployed to respond to all electricity outages once it is safe to do so.

As it stands, ESB Networks are working towards having power restored to the majority of the country by tonight.

However, it is likely that some customers in West Cork and Kerry will be without supply overnight.

Customers without power can check for updates on when their fault is expected to be restored here.

The ESB is warning anyone who may come across fallen wires or damaged lines to report it to them on 1800 372 999.

Anyone who does find themselves without power is being reminded by the ESB to take precautionary measures such as:

  • Turning off electric cookers, irons, ovens, etc.,
  • Leave a light switched on so you know when power has been restored,
  • Take extra care when using candles or naked flames,
  • And ensure adequate ventilation if using gas heaters.
