TUH Funds Boost Will Lead To Additional Beds

St Michael’s Unit of Tipperary University Hospital in Clonmel is set to benefit from  €7 million funding allocation to allow for the delivery of 33 new beds in the hospital.

These beds will be delivered in their entirety by the end of 2022, under this year’s HSE Capital Development Plan.

This funding will allow for the development of the existing St Michael’s Unit and the construction of a linking corridor into the main hospital.

40 beds were added to the hospital last year when a new quick build modular unit was put into operation.

The 33 additional beds will be delivered at a fraction of the normal cost as an existing building will be used and hospital management hopes it will deliver an end to patients on trolleys at the Clonmel hospital.

2 million euros had been spent on St Michael’s to upgrade the building   to   provide   an   overflow   facility during   the   height   of   the   Pandemic.
