Over €100,000 in Leader funding has been allocated towards the Canon Hayes Recreation Centre in Tipperary town. The allocation has been approved of by the South Tipperary Development Company and totals €112,500.
The purpose of the funding is to renew the all-weather pitch and to refit it with a new 3G all-weather grass pitch. The estimated cost of the new pitch will be in the region of €170,000, so the grant will cover 66% of the total cost.
Martin Quinn, the Chairman of the centre has welcomed the news today. Speaking to Tipp Mid West this afternoon, he paid tribute to those who made it possible; particularly the centre’s board of management who he said ‘put huge effort into the application’; and to South Tipperary Development Company.
He went on to explain that it will allow the centre to also begin work on the tennis court, which is a separate project but which can be undertaken in tandem with the all-weather pitch through the same contractor.
Outlining the details of the funding, FG election candidate Mary Newman Julian has described it as an investment that is needed ‘to ensure the centre is viable and profitable into the future’
