Mattie McGrath, TD has called on the Justice Minister to say for definite if she intends to extend Operation Thor beyond this year.
Operation Thor is a garda operation aimed at tackling rural crime and theft.
Deputy McGrath made the call after, he said, the minister refused to commit to the continuance of the operation, despite its success in tackling rural burglaries.
He believes that if the minister does not commit to continuing Operation Thor, criminals will start planning more crimes once the current operation ceases.
He noted that in 2015 there were 6,495 instances of burglary and related offenses in the South East garda division, 1,154 of which were in the Tipperary division.
