C&C Gleeson has told employees it is seeking 31 redundancies at its Borrisoleigh plant.
Staff were informed of the decision at a meeting yesterday.
The decision was made after weeks of speculation about the possibility of jobs losses at the company.
In a statement released following the announcement, the company said that the cuts are being implemented because it must realign its fixed cost base to meet the volume loss suffered in its private label manufacturing.
Responding to the news, Deputy Mattie McGrath has called on CEO Stephen Glancy to make it clear whether this could have a knock-on effect in at the Bulmers plant in Clonmel.
