The Cluid Housing Association which is involved in the provision of housing for people on local authority housing waiting lists has welcomed the Enviroment Minister's trebling of capital funding for social housing.
The organisation has claimed that the increased funding will enable housing associations to provide over 2000 new homes over the next 3 years.
However the association has noted that funding in this area has been reduced in recent budgets and further notes that at least 500 new social housing homes are needed if the social housing waiting list is to be reduced.
Meanwhile as the public takes stock of the implications of the budget, the Carers Association has expressed its anger over not even being mentioned in yesterday's budget.
Speaking to Tipperary Mid West Radio this morning the Carer's Association manager in Co Tipperary Richie Molloy said that they were hoping that some cuts implemented in previous budgets would have been reversed in yesterday's announcements.
However he said they were stunned to find that hey were not even mentioned.
