A number of garda operations targeting the illegal drugs trade have been taken place across Co Tipperary today.
Five searches were carried out in the Roscrea area this morning as part of the intelligence-led operation involving gardaí from Roscrea, Nenagh and Birr assisted by the Regional Support Unit, the Tipperary Divisional Drug Unit and the Garda Dog Unit.
Two males were arrested for obstruction during the course of the serches and were brought to Roscrea garda station.
Both have since been released.
Gardaí say the operation was organised well before two highly publicised public meetings addressing the local drugs problem took place in Roscrea recently.
Meanwhile, two people have been arrested following the seizure of the drugs at a house in Thurles yesterday evening.
Gardaí and members of the Divisional Drugs Unit searched a house in Thurles as part of an ongoing operation targeting the sale and supply of drugs in Co Tipperary. There they discoverd heroine, amphetamines and cannibas with a combined street value of €40,000.
A 30 year old was arrested at the scene and he is continuing to be detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Act.
Meanwhile a female in her 20's was arrested this afternoon in Thurles. She is also being detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Act at Thurles Garda Station.
