Carbon Tax set to double tomorrow.

People in Tipperary are advised that from tomorrow the cost of fuel will rise .

That is because the carbon tax is set to double as part of a two-pronged approach to a tax increase devised by the Green Party in the last government.

As a result of this, the cost of a 40kg bag of coal will rise by an estimated €1.20 and the average bale of briquettes will go up by 26c.

Eamon Timmons of Age Action has said that the move will hit the elderly disproportionately and has called for the additional income generated to be ring-fenced to fund increased payments in the means-tested winter fuel allowance this Autumn.
