A Garda Crime conference is taking place in Templemore over the course of two days.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss nationwide operations against crime gangs that have been taking place in recent times.
In particular Operation Fiacla will be focussed upon.
That operation has been underway for the past 18 months, and today it was revealed that nearly 7,000 arrests have been made as part of it, leading to 4,000 criminal charges.
Community policing was also under discussion. this is likely to incorporate the issue of recent station closure and the effect it has had.
The Garda Comissioner Martin Callinan said he is confident it has not led to a diminution of garda services.
