Independant TD Michael Lowry has been cleared by the Standards in Public Office Commission following complaints about his non decleration to the Oireachtas of land he owned in the northwest of England.

388 complaints were received by the the political standards watchdog after it emerged that Mr lowry had not declared a 21 acre parcel of land he had part-ownership of in Wigan.

Dail  rules require TDs to declare their ownership of any land worth over €13,000

The North Tipperary TD maintained that the lands were generally worthles, adding that he had found planning to be a problem with that particular area.

Professional valuers hired by SIPO found that the land was indeed worth less than the 13,000 limit and therefore Mr Lowry did not need to declare them under the rules.
