Independent TD Seamus Healy and the Tanaiste exchanged lively comments in the Dail over the governments treatment of the sick and elderly.

It started when Deputy Healy accused the government of terrorising the sick and elderly by reducing the primary care reimbursment service by €60 million.

He then went on to claim that the government was targeting the withdrawal of40,000 medical cards from people across the country and had ordered the HSE to implement these medical card cuts

He called for Mr Gilmore to instruct the HSE to cease this practise immediately, adding that many discretionary medical card were being withdrawn from those with serious illnesses such as cancer and motor neuron disease.
