County Tipperary TD has blamed the closure of Dawn Fresh Food's plant in Fethard on the current austerity programme and on EU policy.

It was announced recently that more than 100 jobs are to be lost when the Fethard plant closes before the end of the year.

Deputy Seamus Healy has described the plant as a victim of EU policies.

He maintains that austerity has depressed demand at home for Dawn Foods.

The Independant TD the EU with pursuing a strong euro policy which he says is resulting in Irish manufactured good being priced out of the English market.

He says this is happening as the British and US governments are devaluing their currencies while the EU is reacting by strengthening the euro which he believes, suits the stronger European countries and disadvantages Ireland.
