The Marks and Spencer outlet in Clonmel has escaped the raft of job losses that the company has announced today.

In all the company is cutting 180 staff from its payroll by closing four stores. the stores which are to be shut are in Mullingar, Tallagh, Dun Laoghaire and in Naas.

However, the company is continuing with plans to open new premises in Limerick.

Those plans are still in the proposal stage, but if successful, it could result in a new store opening in the city in 2016 creating an estimated 250 jobs.

Meanwhile, SIPTU representatives are to meet with M&S workers to discuss the closure.
