Miner’s body to be repatriated to Philippines

The body of the miner who was killed during a rockfall at Lisheen Mine on Thursday is to be repatriated to the Philippines this week.

49-year-old Mario Francis died when rocks fell on the loader vehicle he was driving. The incident happened on Thursday afternoon.

His body was recovered at 11.30 pm on Saturday night after intensive efforts.

Mr. Francis is survived by his wife MYAnn and four children.

He had worked at the mine for twelve years.

The general manager of Lisheen Mine, John Elmes, on behalf of the company and all who work at the mine, extended his deepest sympathies to Mr. Francis’ family.
